Snowmobiles are an essential part of winter life up here in Minnesota. Avid enthusiasts take amazing care of their snowmobiles, making sure it is well maintained, cleaned, and kept safe… But there is one thing that many people tend to forget! Snowmobile trailers tend to become an afterthought, but in reality they are an essential part of the snowmobiling lifestyle and need to be properly cared for and maintained as well.

Keep it Clean

Most people keep their snowmobiles in tip top shape. Cleaning off the grime and salt after a ride… But the trailer tends to get neglected. Due to all of the salt on the roads though, you will want to wash off your snowmobile trailer as often as possible in order to keep it in good operating condition. Make sure you hit the underside well since that is where the salt tends to build up. The best way to get the bottom of your trailer as easily as possible without causing any damage is to jack up the tongue as high as you can to easily access the underside of your trailer.

Start From The Ground Up

It really is the small things that make the biggest difference. Checking to make sure everything on your snowmobile trailer is in good working order can truly extend the life of your trailer. Check all of the bolts and make sure they are tightened, make sure tired are properly filled with air and that they have good tread left.. You will also want to regularly check the breaks and your axle as well. If anything is a bit off, go ahead and fix the issue or replace needed parts. Better to catch and fix a small issue before it turns into a massive problem!

Check Your Wiring

After giving your trailer a good wash down, you want to check the wires just to be sure nothing got knocked loose during the washing process. Make sure everything is connected correctly so that the lights worm, your coupler and hitch are fully functioning, and then you will be ready to go!
